This song's made to be a singalong! Props to my teenage and forever heroes Billy Bragg and Joe Strummer for the inspiration.
RBC is the #1 funder of fossil fuel projects in so-called Canada, #5 in the world. They are the main investor in the Coastal GasLink fracked gas pipeline being illegally and violently forced through Wet'suwet'en territory in "British Columbia," drilling under the sacred Wedzin Kwa river, which has been the source of clean water and edible salmon for the Wet'suwet'en nation since time immemorial. With the help of private security and Canada's national police force, RBC have been harassing Wet'suwet'en land defenders and evicting them from what is legally their own sovereign land, as recognized by the Supreme Court of Canada and the United Nations, for four years now.
The 2023 AGM for RBC will be held on April 5 in Saskatoon. To let them know their attempts at greenwashing their brand are not working, and to continue pressuring them to divest from the CGL pipeline, a group of Wet'suwet'en allies called Decolonial Solidarity will be holding rallies at Royal Bank branches across the country on Saturday, April 1. I'll be singing this song at the one in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia) on unceded Mi'kmaw territory.
