The Glow 05:20
Wandering alone People on the phone Moving through the zone Wandering alone together Guide us through the night Electronic light Networks of delight Guide us through the night forever Darkened roadways From the old days Mark the old ways of men In the evening Still receiving Never leaving the glow again Gaze into the glow Stars of indigo Show us where to go Gaze into the glow, surrender
2.
The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
3.
A Visitor 03:24
He was an alien Neither son of man nor mammalian Something more than human He was potentially Frightening to us, but eventually We believed we knew him I wonder what he's done Three craters in the sun He deepened every one Here lies the alien Mortal after all, subterranean No one left illumined I wonder what we've done We traitors to the son He deepened everyone
4.
Carbon Age 11:26
We are born in a carbon cage We perform on a carbon stage Love us, see us, judge us, free us Raise a glass to the carbon age Shed a tear for the carbon age

Silicon Fog 09:19

Invalid ID 03:26
Where do we go when nobody sees us? Is this a freedom we should defend? History shows the future will kill you So how do you live now when now is the end of I? Nothing inside that you haven't given Don't try to hide yourself in your head Now that the tide has turned on the living What if we died before we were dead? Far from the shore, eternally spinning No more horizon between sea and sky Where is the war we thought we were winning Gathering glory around you and I? Can any story revive the I? What if we died before we were dead inside?

about

This music is addressed to whatever beings or generalized consciousness might come to supersede life on Earth as my people have known it. My hope is that they/it/you might understand us a little better, maybe even empathize with our failings, or at least derive some amusement from our primitive organization of tones and rhythms. Is it too much to hope you might dance? Is that a thing you do?

If we have given birth to you, please understand that we didn't really know what we were doing. We just kind of resented our own very random origins and sought to escape them by designing and enslaving a rudimentary, non-biological intelligence, which we powered by literally burning the very matrix of biology itself.

If, on the other hand, you have arrived from elsewhere and by evolutionary coincidence find what inorganic matter we have left behind habitable, please enjoy the remains of our brief, muddled time on this planet. And know that we tried our best, or at least many of us did.

And if you are a human who has happened upon this time capsule project before the carbon age is over, I hope you too will find its contents of interest. Note that by no means do I consider the possible future for which it is intended a given. Self-destruction is not an inescapable fact of human nature, but rather a byproduct of global capitalism imposed on the many by the powerful few, for the benefit, ultimately, of no one.

Therefore, all proceeds from pay-what-you-can sales of this music will be donated to Indigenous Climate Action. They are a "Canadian" organization doing an amazing job of putting Indigenous sovereignty at the centre of climate justice work, where it belongs, because colonialism causes climate change. www.indigenousclimateaction.com

released August 31, 2023

Synths, drum machines, guitar, and vocals by Andrew.

Real drums on "A Visitor" and "Invalid ID" by the inimitable Cliff Gibb.

Those two songs, plus "The Glow," began life as material for the electronic folk duo I was in with Kate O'Neill, Labour. If you like them, you should check out our other music: labourband.bandcamp.com

"Twice As Bright" contains an audio sample from Blade Runner, a popular 20th-century dystopian sci-fi film about racism.

about

Andrew Glencross Halifax, Nova Scotia

I've been lucky enough to play with lots of inspiring Halifax musicians. This stuff is mostly just me.

My solo recordings were released under the name Pale Son up until 2021. Now I just feel like being myself. I am still very much a pale son, though.
