about

One night in the spring of 2019 I travelled to the future and witnessed a performance by an amazing trio of folk musicians. They assured me backstage that I was not dreaming and told me their ambition was to prove live electronic music could be active, relatable, and entertaining to an audience of non-technicians. There were no laptops or inscrutable boxes in their setup. Instead, all of them played quaintly anachronistic analogue keyboards and sang. I and the others watching could see every note or texture being produced, and it was beautiful.

A lot of their songs were a kind of requiem for a bourgeois dream that had nearly brought an end to human history and therefore to meaning. Many of the lyrics recalled a despair felt by previous generations as they were forced to let go of a lifestyle that no longer made sense. The band said they were glad I had come to visit and urged me to spread their message of understanding and ultimate hope to the sleepy people of my own time.

This album is a re-creation of that band's set (except for the last track, a Pale Son original inspired by my incredible visit). It is regrettably only as accurate as my memory and musical abilities would allow. I wish you could have seen and heard what I did. I wish we were all there with them now. The band was called Bun.

about

Andrew Glencross Halifax, Nova Scotia

I've been lucky enough to play with lots of inspiring Halifax musicians. This stuff is mostly just me.

My solo recordings were released under the name Pale Son up until 2021. Now I just feel like being myself. I am still very much a pale son, though.
